The holidays are exciting, especially for families with small children. When my kiddos were little, they were so excited for Christmas morning that they were up at the crack of dawn, chomping at the bit to see what was under the tree! It didn't matter if it was socks or a new device, they were always excited for Christmas morning!
Their bedrooms were upstairs in the old house and when they came downstairs, the first thing they saw was the tree in the living room. That said, it was always hard to hide what was under the tree.
One year we decided to "wrap" the living room so they couldn't see in. We took a wide roll of wrapping paper and stretched it across the entryway. When we were ready to sit down and exchange gifts, we let them tear through the wrapping paper to get into the living room. That was a topic of conversation for a little while.
As they got older, the excitement of Christmas was a little less and they started sleeping in. That's where Plan B came into play! We started turning on Transiberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve in Sarajevo and blasting it on repeat until they came down. ha!
As my kids grew up, moved out and started their own families, the excitement is now with the grandbabies and how exciting the holidays are for them.
Whatever the situation is in your home, the countdown to Christmas is always on! :-)
